 John Sylvester

My name is John Sylvester, I've been working as an independent trekking guide for over 15 years in Kalaw, Inle lake, Pindaya and the surrounding areas in the Shan state in Myanmar.

I know a lot about the local culture and speak fluent English, Burmese and native dialects from the hill tribes in the region.

I'm passionate about trekking and I want to share it with you!

 Kalaw

Kalaw is a little town which is located 1320 meters above the sea level in the Southern Shan State, Myanmar. The mountainous landscape is very beautiful, and the mild climate, pine forest and colonial bungalows made the region very popular since British day.

Not only it was a British Hill Station and the mission school but it's also located within trekking distance of many ethnic minority tribe villages. Kalaw is made up of a mixture of Shan, Palaung, Buma, Indian, Nepali, Taung Yoe, Paoh and Inthar tribal groups.
